Individual Tutoring Sessions

The Center for Japanese Language Education’s Japanese teaching staff provides private Japanese lessons by appointment to people who are eligible to take courses at the Center (see below).

Eligibility

The lessons are available for

  • international students at the University of Tokyo;
  • foreign researchers at the University of Tokyo;
  • spouses who are enrolled in the General Course of the Center for Japanese Language Education.

Description

Support for the following Japanese language study via online meetings (Zoom):

  • Providing consultation about studying Japanese language and advice on reference books
  • Answering questions on Japanese language (such as grammar, words and phrases, kanji, and conversation skills)
  • Assisting students with conversation practice, checking compositions*, etc.

*The staff will check your compositions for the purpose of supporting your Japanese language study. However, this is not a personal coaching service to check and make corrections on reports, research plans, master’s or doctoral theses, or papers for publication in your specialized field. For such cases, please consult your academic advisor or tutor for guidance and advice.

Time Schedule

Usually, six to nine time slots (one slot is 30 minutes) are available per week during the semester. However, please note that time slots are not fixed and change depending on the time of the year.

In addition, we offer students an opportunity for Japanese course consultation before the General Course and Intensive Japanese Course start in April and October.

Registration

Only those who have registered through the Center’s online application system (STAR) can apply.

Please apply through the Center’s website at least two days before the session (excluding weekends and holidays). Slots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The schedule will be posted on STAR a week in advance.
