Global Leadership Program-I

The Global Leader Program-I (GLP-I) is a part of the "University of Tokyo Global Leader Program (GLP)", which is mainly conducted in English.

Global Leader Program (GLP)

The GLP is a university-wide program for all undergraduate students interested in developing leadership skills and global careers. The program emphasizes the importance of diversity, inclusion, and the transdisciplinary, solution-oriented approaches needed to address global issues in the 21st century.

FEATURE of GLP-I

  • Intercultural + interfaculty: Work with domestic and international students, and meet students from all faculties.
  • UTokyo x Minerva: Study courses developed in collaboration with Minerva to develop your global outlook and twenty-first century competences.
  • Study in English: Enrich your studies from a global perspective.
  • Student-led projects: Transdisciplinary and solution-oriented projects will build a portfolio to showcase what you produce.
  • Scholarships: There are up to two opportunities to access scholarships for global experiences based on the completion of GLP-I components.
  • Certification: Add the GLP-I Certificate to your portfolio.

Program Structure

The Global Leadership Program-I requires you to take the Global Leadership Course (GLC-I: Leadership Foundation); two other designated components; a Global Experience; the Capstone project; and to share the project results at the Global Leadership Summit.

Enrollment to GLP-I and Certification of Each Component

Enrollment

There is no designated period for applying to participate in GLP-I itself. The concept of GLP-I is that students register and complete each component on their own, which will then be acknowledged as their participation in GLP-I.

The first step we recommend is to take the "Global Leadership Course (GLC-I: Leadership Foundation)", which is one of the mandatory components. In order to take, pre-registration from a designated form is required, so please respond to the form from the button below.

After this, you will plan your own journey through other components.

Please note that the "Global Leadership Course (GLC-I)" and the "Global Liberal Arts courses" can be taken by the undergraduate studies in the senior division  (including those in the fourth semester of the Junior Division) and graduate students. First-year students and second-year students who are not in the fourth semester cannot take these courses.

Recognition of components already completed

Any components, such as GLA or GUC, that you have already taken will count toward your GLP-I certification. After the start of the 2024 A semester, we will send a application form to students who have registered for the "Global Leadership Course (GLC-I: Leadership Foundation)." This form is for confirming the Global Liberal Arts (GLA) and UTokyo Global Units Courses (GUC) they have already taken. If you wish to be certified, please apply from that form.

In the 2024A semester, students can only take two components: the "Global Leadership  Course (GLC-I: Leadership Foundation)" and the "Global Liberal Arts course (GLA)." Information regarding Capstone, Summit, the "Global Leadership Course (GLC-II)" and Global Experiences will be announced at a later date.
