Go Global Gateway (GGG) webpage has been launched!

― Visualize Your Learning as "Global Competence" ―

Long-term study abroad is not the only way to open your door to the world.

Go Global Gateway (GGG) is a program designed for all undergraduate students to develop their “global competence” (the ability to live and work together with diverse people around the world) through a variety of opportunities tailored to your interests. From foreign language courses taken on campus to short-term study abroad programs, every step is a valuable experience that connects you to the world.
Your journey begins with the 100-minute On-demand Online Course.
By simply adding a global perspective to your daily studies, your activities will be recognized as “global competence.” Take the first step now and turn your experiences into an official university certificate!

The Certification Process

GGG certificate will be awarded upon satisfying the requirements ①, ② and ③ and/or ④ listed below, and submitting the designated form. Click on ① to ④ below for more details.

【Notes】

  • Sign in with your UTokyo Account to access the form.
  • The application is only available to undergraduate students. Please note that graduate students are not eligible to apply.
  • When applying for the certificate after completing "④ Global Experiences," you will need to upload a document verifying your participation in the relevant program or activity (e.g., completion certificate, program report) within the form. Make sure to prepare this in advance.
  • Once your application has been reviewed by the GlobE office, a notification will be sent to your ECCS Cloud Email address.

*It may take up to one month to issue the certificate.

GGG+ Certification

By completing the Global Leadership Program (GLP) offered by GlobE, along with the ① On-demand Online Course, you will qualify for GGG+ (Plus). Students who successfully complete the GLP program will be issued a digital certificate (in Open Badge format) as proof of their active engagement in the international education program.

① On-demand Online Course

― Step into Global Competence in 100 Minutes! ―

As the first step in engaging in international activities at UTokyo, start with the On-demand Online Course. This course provides comprehensive information on various opportunities for international activities and programs offered by UTokyo. You can also hear stories from current UTokyo students and GlobE faculties about their global experiences.

Completion of the course is mandatory for applying to and participating in various activities at UTokyo, such as GO GLOBAL Study Abroad Fairs, University-wide Student Exchange Program (USTEP), and short-term study abroad programs, etc. We encourage you to take the course as early as possible.

Course Description

The course consists of the following four themes. For each theme, there are one or two videos and several quizzes (multiple-choice questions) to assess your understanding.

  • UTokyo’s study abroad programs and international educations
  • The mindset required for international activities
  • What is "Global Competence"?

The Course Enrollment Process

  1. By clicking the button below, you will gain access to the form for the course. Watch the videos for each section and answer the subsequent quizzes.
  2. After submitting your answers, click "View Results" on the screen and review your responses.
  3. Save the notification which will be sent to your ECCS Cloud Email address upon your completion of the course. (The notification will be sent separately from the automatic email sent from the form.)

Estimated time required: Approximately 100 minutes, including video viewing and quizzes.

  • Sign in with your UTokyo Account to access the course.
  • The form is not set up to temporarily save of your responses.
  • Each person can submit the form only once.

② Foreign Language Courses

Earn all the credits for foreign language courses (Foundation and Integrated Courses (Group L)) required by the Junior Division at UTokyo. For details, also refer to the Academic Handbook.

Note: Foreign language courses offered to undergraduate students in the Senior Division that are conducted in a language other than your first language are counted as Category ③.

③ Courses offered in languages other than your first language

Complete at least one course taught in a language other than your first language. This includes the courses offered by the Center for Global Education (GlobE) listed below. The relevant courses offered by individual faculties, which are not listed here, are also eligible.
Note: Foundation Courses and Integrated Courses (Group L) offered in the Junior Division, which are categorized as ②, are not eligible for Category ③.

  • Global Liberal Arts Courses (GLA):
    GLA explore interdisciplinary topics, particularly those related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), seven different languages, including English. Classes are principally conducted with a small number of approximately 20 students, focusing on interactive activities such as discussions.
  • Language-Global Liberal Arts Courses (L-GLA):
    L-GLA provide students with the opportunity to develop advanced proficiency in English, German, French, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, and Korean through small, interactive classes.
  • Global Leadership Program Courses (GLC):
    In the GLC, students develop the teamwork skills and fundamental competencies needed for effective collaboration in diverse team to make a positive impact on society, based on practical knowledge.

  • UTokyo Global Unit Courses (GUC)
    The University of Tokyo Global Unit Courses provides a great opportunity for students around the world to experience studying at one of the world's foremost universities in East Asia. UTokyo GUC offers a variety of freely selectable courses in-person and online with cutting-edge contents, taught by leading faculty members of the University of Tokyo.
