Global Experiences and Scholarships

Global Experiences

Overview

Global Experiences is one of the mandatory components to complete the GLP-I. Global Experiences are designed to provide students with the actual overseas experience or global experience in Japan that is necessary for a global career and leadership skills.
In GLP-I, based on the leadership foundations learned in GLC-I, students engage in global activities with a perspective on the SDGs. Through actual experiences, they learn about and deepen their understanding of these topics.

Recognizing Global Experiences

The activities, which each student will engage in, will be recognized as Global Experiences. Specifically, activities that fit into the following categories will be eligible for recognition. Certification requires commitment to more than 23 hours of educational program or work at the Global Experiences in which they participated.

Engaging in Global Experiences

Global Experiences is generally designed with expectation to be participated in after completing the Global Capstone.* In the Global Capstone, under the mentorship of a faculty member, the student will conduct an 'Academic Investigation' on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), plan of Global Experiences you'd like to participate in, and ultimately create the 'UTokyo Global Leadership Portfolio' (tentative). Furthermore, after completing the Global Experiences, the student will present at the Global Leadership Summit based on the 'UTokyo Global Leadership Portfolio' (tentative) you created and the actual learning from the Global Experiences.
The Global Capstone and Global Leadership Summit serve as platforms to prepare, reflect on, and showcase the outcomes of these experiences.

*If a student participates in a program that qualifies as Global Experiences before the Global Capstone, the handling of such case will differ. Please refer to the Q&A for more details.
