PhD in Hispanic Literature. El Colegio de México
I was born in Mérida, Venezuela and studied at the Universidad de Los Andes to get my bachelor's and master's degrees. Combined with my academic career as a professor and researcher, I had the chance to approach communication media as a radio and TV announcer, and collaborator with printed media in different countries. I studied Latin American Literature and got my PhD at El Colegio de Mexico. After more than 20 years of experience as professor in Venezuela and as a visiting scholar in various universities in Europe and Latin America, I had the opportunity to join the Center for Global Communication Strategies (TLP Program) at the University of Tokyo, since 2019.
Spanish is the main language used in my classes and academic research. Some of the topics of my research interest are: comparative literature, as well as the relationships of literature with politics and historiography.
I am currently researching on migrations and their representations in contemporary Latin American literature.

The complex and changing dynamics of contemporary society constantly challenge us. Knowledge of cultures and their diverse forms of expression are a permanent source of learning. We need to get knowledge and develop a sense of understanding. The study of languages also offers us the opportunity to share experiences, interests, and concerns about the times we live in and our global challenges. Together with the study of Spanish language we will have a chance to learn about the wonderful legacy of Hispanic culture in the world. You are all very welcome!
