Dialogue at UTokyo GlobE #8 (Talk event with Izumi Nakamitsu (United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs), President Teruo Fujii, and Executive Vice President Kaori Hayashi) was held

On Wednesday, May 15 at 17:30, as Dialogue at UTokyo GlobE #8, “Talk event with Izumi Nakamitsu (United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs), President Teruo Fujii, and Executive Vice President Kaori Hayashi” was held.

At the beginning of the event, Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu delivered a lecture about the role of the United Nations in maintaining peace and ensuring international security, and discussed the approach towards its realization in a world that is dramatically changing due to the progress of technology (Lecture title: A Turbulent World in Tectonic Shifts: Case for a Renewed Multilateralism). This was followed by a discussion with Ms. Nakamitsu, President Fujii, and EVP Hayashi, where they explored the role of educational institutions, particulary the ethical and responsible actions needed in technological innovation, and the educational approaches for leadership development. At the end of the event, a Q&A session was conducted with the participating students. They enthusiastically addressed a wide range of questions, from careers in international organizations, to the role the United Nations should play amidst current global conflicts, and the perspectives that the younger generation should adopt for the future.
