Global Experiences
Overview
As part of the GLP-II (TLP), you are required to take at least one Global Experience. Global Experiences is designed to provide opportunities to cultivate advanced language skills and cultural understanding aimed for in GLP-II (TLP) through overseas experiences.
Guidelines for Global Experiences
Below are important notes regarding GLP-II (TLP) Global Experiences. Please pay particular attention to Point 2: For programs conducted in English, please be aware that they are not eligible for certification unless they include a "language learning" (aimed at language acquisition) component.

The program must fall under one of the eligible categories.

To be officially recognized as a GLP-II (TLP) completion requirement, the student must first apply for approval using the dedicated form. Final certification will be granted only after the stundent's experience report has been submitted and accepted following the program.

The program must be one where you study in or study the language you are studying for GLP-II (TLP): German, French, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, or Korean. (Refer to the [Example] below.)

Program Categories Eligible as Global Experiences
GLP-II (TLP) does not offer a proprietary overseas program exclusively for its students. Instead, participation in a wide range of categories—such as various study abroad programs offered by the University of Tokyo—is certified as a GLP completion requirement, provided it meets specific criteria. Activities that fit into the following categories will be eligible for recognition.*Intensive [High-level] Program: The programs conducted by the Junior Division of the College of Arts and Sciences, primarily targeting students enrolled in the "初級(インテンシヴ)[高度]" courses under the "International Communications" within the Integrated Courses Group L.
- a. Intensive [High-level] Program*
- b. University-wide Student Exchange Program (USTEP) or Departmental level Student Exchange Programs at Faculty/Graduate School
- c. Short-Term Study Abroad Programs offered by GlobE
- d. Study abroad programs offered by the college and faculties at UTokyo
- e. Regular courses at UTokyo which include overseas experience (excluding Global Liberal Arts Courses)
- f. Other global experiences involving overseas travel for which students apply for certification. This includes short-term study abroad programs offered by overseas universities or language educational institutions.
Scholarship for Global Experiences
Important Note
If you wish to receive a scholarship for your Global Experience, you must apply in advance and obtain approval that the program qualifies as a Global Experience. Please note that the scholarship will not be granted for programs you have already participated in or if the application is submitted after participation.
Note regarding Category b (University-wide Student Exchange Program (USTEP) or Departmental level Student Exchange Programs at Faculty/Graduate School): While this category is recognized as a valid Global Experience, it is not eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarships Specifications and Payment Restriction

Students may apply for the scholarship provided they meet the applicant eligibility requirements and participate in an eligible program. The scholarship amount ranges from 80,000 JPY to 120,000 JPY, depending on the country or region. For specific rates, please refer to the "List of Scholarship Amounts by Country/Region" at the end of this section.

Payment Restriction
If you apply for Category b “University-wide Exchange (USTEP) or Departmental level Student Exchange Programs” as your Global Experience, you will not be eligible for the scholarship.

Concurrent Funding Restriction
Concurrent funding (併給) is possible, provided that the other scholarship allows it. However, concurrent receipt with the "GLP-I Global Experiences Scholarship" is not permitted (i.e., you cannot receive both GLP-I and GLP-II (TLP) scholarships for the same program).

Eligibility for GLP-II Global Experiences Scholarships
The eligibility requirements consist of the following two criterias. These will be confirmed on the application form at the time of application.
- Declaration of intent to participate in GLP-II (TLP)
- Status of credits earned toward GLP-II (TLP) completion

If you wish to receive the scholarship, you must confirm at the time of application your commitment to continue earning credits for courses required for GLP-II (TLP) completion, with the goal of completing GLP-II (TLP) even after your Global Experience ends.

The requirements differ for Junior Division students and Senior Division students.

You must either:
- Have already earned 4 or more credits from eligible courses in "Integrated Courses Group L (Language and Communication)" (those recognized for GLP-II (TLP) completion requirements), OR
- Have earned 2 credits AND have 2 or more additional credits in progress (i.e., currently registered/enrolled).

Payment Rules
- Please note that the scholarship is paid after your program concludes. Once your program is finished, you must first submit an experience report and the necessary documents. After these documents are submitted, the payment transfer procedure will begin.
- The scholarship will not be paid for programs attended without prior application, nor will it be paid retroactively for programs already completed.
- It is not possible to accommodate individual circumstances, such as requests for a specific transfer date or payment in advance.

To have your program certified as a Global Experience, you must apply in advance using the dedicated form. The application forms can also be accessed directly from the portal site.
