GlobE hosted a roundtable discussion titled "What Does It Mean to Study In/About the Global South? Let’s Talk with Program Alumni!"

On Thursday, July 9, GlobE hosted a roundtable discussion titled "What Does It Mean to Study In/About the Global South? Let’s Talk with Program Alumni!" at the Komaba Campus.

Four undergraduate students who studied in countries such as Thailand, Bangladesh, Ghana, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates through UTokyo's University-wide Student Exchange Program (USTEP) and short-term study abroad programs shared their experiences in each country. Professor Mari Yoshihara, Vice Director of GlobE, moderated the conversation.

During the Q&A session, the audience asked a variety of questions. Topics ranged from the personal and academic hurdles the speakers faced, to how their programs aligned with their majors, and the eye-opening cultural differences they experienced. The in-person format fostered a candid and lively exchange, inspiring the audience through these authentic, first-hand stories.

While UTokyo has had long-standing exchanges with North America, Europe, and East Asia, GlobE is expanding connections and learning opportunities in the Global South. We look forward to hosting more events and utilizing various platforms to share information, aiming to encourage even more students to look to the Global South for their next academic adventure.
