2025.08.21
The UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2025 reached its midpoint with a two-day retreat in Yamanashi Prefecture on July 4 and 5, featuring research presentations and cultural excursions.

During the research presentations, both the participating undergraduates and UTokyo graduate students who accompanied the group as support staff shared their research work. The presentations spanned diverse topics in bioengineering and life sciences, sparking lively interdisciplinary discussions that generated fresh perspectives and insights.

Beyond the academic sessions, participants explored scenic locations including Arakurayama Sengen Park, the Oshino Hakkai springs, and the Narusawa Ice Cave. The group also enjoyed cultural experiences and recreational activities such as a barbecue, fireworks, and making hōtō, a traditional local noodle soup.

While the two days flew by, the retreat proved invaluable for deepening participants’ understanding of each other’s research while strengthening personal connections. This blend of scholarship, cultural immersion, and friendship continues to be a hallmark of the UTokyo Amgen Scholars experience.
