2024.10.02
On Monday, September 9th, 2024, the Kashiwa Branch of the Center for Global Education hosted a calligraphy workshop aimed at deepening the understanding of Japanese culture for international students, foreign researchers, and their families residing on Kashiwa Campus. This marked the 9th edition of the event, with 22 participants from 11 countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. The participants enjoyed an authentic Calligraphy experience with the professional guidance from the Kashiwa Calligraphy Association and the Mitsui Volunteer Network Group. The workshop followed a structured flow: participants first selected a character or two from samples written by the instructors, practiced their chosen characters, and then created their final work. The most popular character selected was "Autumn", with other choices like "Spring", "Cherry Blossom", "Flower", "Bamboo", "Star", and "Thunder", all relating to seasons and nature, capturing the hearts of the participants. Japan’s unique sensitivity to nature and the changing seasons clearly left a deep impression on the international participants.
Following the Calligraphy experience, tea and snacks were served in the community salon, where participants relaxed and deepened their connections with one another. This Calligraphy workshop not only sparked a greater interest in Japanese culture but also provided a meaningful opportunity for participants to form new friendships through the exchange.
