Kashiwa Branch holds Free Recycling Bazaar 2026 Autumn
On Monday, October 5, 2026, GlobE’s Kashiwa Branch held its second Free Recycling Bazaar of the academic year at the Kashiwa Campus for newly arrived international students and foreign researchers.
Many participants gathered even before the registration desk opened. Some 50 students and researchers from 14 countries and regions attended. The lively venue was filled with a wide variety of donated items, including bicycles, household appliances, kitchen utensils, tableware, bedding, and other daily necessities generously contributed by Kashiwa Campus students, faculty members, and staff and by local volunteers.
The most popular items—bicycles as well as appliances such as microwave ovens, rice cookers, and vacuum cleaners—were distributed by lottery. Each time the winners were announced, cheers and applause erupted from the crowd, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. Other items were provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants enthusiastically selected what they needed for their new lives in Japan.
Many participants had arrived in Japan only recently, and the bazaar gave them a valuable opportunity to obtain things they needed for their new lives free of charge. In addition to practical items such as tableware, cooking utensils, and bedding, many appliances in good condition were available. Numerous participants expressed their gratitude for the support.
After the bazaar, participants enjoyed snacks and drinks prepared at the venue and took the opportunity to get to know one another. New connections were formed across departments and nationalities, helping to strengthen the international community on campus.
The event was made possible by the generous support of everyone who donated items. By promoting the reuse of resources, supporting international students and researchers as they settle in at UTokyo, and deepening international exchange, it proved to be a highly meaningful initiative.
