GlobE Komaba joined the "Discover KABUKI" event
On Sunday, June 7, GlobE Komaba joined the "Discover KABUKI" event hosted by the Japan Arts Council. Throughout the event, international students and foreign researchers had the opportunity to not only experience Japanese culture but also interact with other UTokyo participants. Fifty-five participants from nineteen countries enjoyed the performance together.
The program began with a guidance session titled "How to Appreciate Kabuki," which gave a preview of the day's performance and highlights. The main program was the performance of "Kanadehon Chushingura Acts 5 and 6," in which a protagonist, determined to avenge his late lord but beset by misfortune, is caught in a drama of family bonds and deepening misunderstandings.
Participants shared impressions such as, “It was my first time seeing a Kabuki performance, and I could truly feel its tradition,” “It gave me a deeper understanding of Japanese culture,” and “I’m glad I joined, as I was also able to interact with other participants.”
