UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2026 Kicks Off
The UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2026 officially commenced on June 4, welcoming 15 exceptional undergraduate students from across Asia who aspire to become the next generation of scientific leaders. Over the course of eight weeks, these talented scholars will engage in innovative, hands-on research at laboratories affiliated with the Graduate Schools of Medicine, Engineering, Science, Agricultural and Life Sciences, Arts and Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as the Institute of Industrial Science and the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology.
The program opened with a lecture on environment and safety, delivered by the Environmental Science Center, setting the foundation for a safe and enriching research experience. This was followed by a celebratory Welcome Lunch, which brought together approximately 60 participants — including the scholars, students and faculty from host laboratories, and faculty members of GlobE— to mark the beginning of this year’s program. During the luncheon, each scholar shared a self-introduction, offering insights into their academic interests, goals for the program, and aspirations for the future.
In the afternoon, a guided tour of the Hongo Campus was conducted, offering participants an opportunity to explore the University’s historic architecture and iconic landmarks.
Through this program, the University of Tokyo hopes that the scholars will not only deepen their research expertise, but also engage in meaningful cross-cultural exchange and build lasting friendships and professional networks that will extend far beyond their time in Tokyo.
