Program Report: UTokyo – Princeton Joint Program “People and Culture of Japan in the United States: Past, Present, and Future”

The University of Tokyo and Princeton University jointly conducted the winter program “People and Culture of Japan in the United States: Past, Present, and Future” in the United States from March 7 to March 17, 2026. Eight undergraduate students from each university participated, studying together at the University of Tokyo New York Office, Rutgers University, and Princeton University. The program featured lectures by Princeton University faculty members, as well as talks by the Ambassador, Consul General of Japan in New York. Participants also engaged in a variety of learning opportunities, including visits to the United Nations Headquarters and The New York Times.
In connection with the program theme, they attended an opera performance of "Madama Butterfly," which explores the relationship between Japan and the wider world. Throughout the ten-day program, participants actively engaged with one another, deepened their mutual understanding, and built lasting friendships.
