"Lunar New Year Student Exchange Gathering" Hosted by GlobE ISSR Chinese Conversation Club

On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Center for Global Education (GlobE) hosted "Lunar New Year Student Exchange Gathering” (Special version of Chinese Conversation Club) at Student Plaza, Center for Global Education, Hongo Campus.

Twenty international and local students were divided into three groups and spoke in Chinese, Japanese, and English to talk about New Year dishes of their hometowns and families and to share their new year resolutions. A representative from each group then shared their discussion with all the participants. The attendees also played a game of charade based on traditional Lunar New Year customs and four-character idioms expressing New Year wishes. During the social time, students chatted freely and wrote their favorite words and Horse Year “blessings” (zhùfú) in calligraphy, which were displayed in the Student Plaza.

Chinese Conversation Club is organized by the International Student Support Room (ISSR), Center for Global Education, as an opportunity for UTokyo students to interact with each other in Chinese, Japanese, and other languages. The gathering is held twice a month during lunchtime at Student Plaza.
