Event Report: "Let's visit Kabukiza!" (Komaba Branch)

GlobE Komaba Branch hosted the event "Let's visit Kabukiza!" on December 7.

With local UTokyo students serving as group leaders for the international students, the participants traveled from the Komaba I campus to the Kabukiza Theatre in seven groups. They strolled through the site, including the gallery and the rooftop garden, before the start of the Kabuki performance. The play is based on a best-selling picture book, “One Stormy Night”, about friendship between a wolf and a goat. With acrobatic movements and comedy elements, the story is presented in an accessible and entertaining form unique to Kabuki, allowing all participants, including those who do not understand Japanese, to fully enjoy the performance.

The enthusiasm of the participants is felt in their shared comments such as: “I was truly grateful for the opportunity”; “it was a wonderful experience to learn about Japanese culture”; “I felt the atmosphere of Edo period with many audience dressed in kimonos”; “I felt a desire to cherish my own culture”; and “I was glad to be able to further deepen the exchanges even after the event by sightseeing and eating with the other participants.”
