USTEP (University-wide Student Exchange Program) orientation and welcome event 2024 Autumn

On September 27th, an orientation and welcome event for new exchange students of USTEP (University-wide Student Exchange Program) was held at the Yasuda Auditorium.

For USTEP Type U (exchange program for undergraduate students) starting in September 2024, 150 outstanding students from partner universities around the world are enrolled as exchange students at the University of Tokyo, taking classes at both the Hongo and Komaba campuses. The orientation also included an introduction to the faculty members affiliated with the Center for Global Education and was a meaningful time to help students get started in their study abroad experience.

The local UTokyo students also participated in this orientation as “USTEP Partners” to welcome these new exchange students and deepen their friendship. USTEP Partners is an initiative that began in the A semester of 2023 to provide opportunities for students to voluntarily engage in international exchange with each other. The second part of the welcome event was planned by Partners themselves, led by the organizing members, and consisted of presentations introducing student life at the University of Tokyo and the fascinating aspects of Japan, as well as recreational activities to get to know each other. A senior USTEP student who started his exchange program in the S semester of 2024 also gave a humorous welcome speech with practical advice, creating a cheerful and lively atmosphere at the venue from start to end.
