2024.06.25
On June 20th, as a cultural study of the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program, a tour of the Hōmeikan building and a shamisen lesson were held. The Hōmeikan main building, located within walking distance from the Hongo campus, is a registered tangible cultural property with a history of over 120 years.
The scholars learned about the historical significance of the former bustling boarding and inn district while exploring the intricately crafted interior with valuable woodwork.
During the shamisen lesson, guided by shamisen performer Kohdai Minoda, they played “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
The lesson concluded with a performance of “Kanjincho,” allowing participants to savor the unique melodies and ambiance of the shamisen.
Through Japanese history and tradition, the scholars enjoyed this valuable opportunity.
