Biography
Specialization: Global avant-garde and Surrealist literature and art; game studies and gaming cultures,
I have lived, worked, and taught in Tokyo, Beirut, Paris, New York, and the Carolinas, and have researched and written on French, Japanese, and Eastern European literature, art, and media. In my scholarly and creative practice, I focus on the practical, social, and political dimensions of human attention; and, through the lens of global avant-garde collectives, on the relationship between artistic experiment and social change.
Message to Students
Take pride both in what you are learning and what you already know; both in who you are and who you are becoming. Remember that we learn not only by studying but by being, doing, teaching, playing, and community-making.
