Biography

After studying Humanities in Naples (Italy) and Linguistics in Zurich (Switzerland), I completed my PhD in Speech sciences in Aix-en-Provence (France) in 2012, and then moved to Cologne (Germany) to work as a post-doctoral researcher until 2023. My research has focused on prosody and intonation, which are an important but less understood aspect of the sound of languages. I currently work on the dynamics of spoken communication, with an emphasis on the different roles that speakers take during conversation.

Message to Students

Many of us grow with a strong sense of connection to their family, their clan, their hometown, their region or their country. These connections can help us find a reassuring reference point in an uncertain world. However, they can also make it difficult for us to get in touch with ourselves and with others. Learning a different language and learning how to communicate with different people can be powerful tools to open ourselves to the world.
